Summarising some of the work that The Tweed Foundation has undertaken over the preceding month…..
The Tweed Foundation held an evening seminar on the Brown-trout of the Tweed, with seven talks from all three biologists.
An introductory course in Scale Reading was also provided for the SFCC, which was attended by personnel from three other Trusts. Summary annual reports for the Gala and Whiteadder fish counters were prepared and a start made on analysing the fish movements with the flow data for the Whiteadder, which requires two different data sets to be merged. Eighteen Whiteadder trout were sampled for scales as part of the continuing work on annual growth variability. A strategy meeting on tagging fish for assessment of the new fish pass at Philiphaugh, Selkirk was held and talks were given to the Alnwick Oddfellows Angling club, the Scottish Freshwater Group, the Whiteadder Fisheries Group, and the Federation of Border Angling Associations. A presentation on the life cycle of the Salmon was also made at Edenside Primary School. Meetings Attended: RAFTS AGM; Land-use Strategy Pilot Project.
