Dr Ronald Campbell of The Tweed Foundation gave a presentation on the historic changes that have been seen in Tweed’s Salmon runs over the centuries at a seminar in December; this fascinating presentation is now available to view on the Foundation’s YouTube channel, HERE
Given the dramatic shifts in the runs of fish seen on the river in the last three years, and particularly in 2016, this presentation is extremely timely, and was put together from a long-term study by The Tweed Foundation using historic records of Tweed Salmon catches, mostly from the netting stations. It shows that the kind of changes that we are currently seeing in Salmon runs are not a new phenomenon, and have occurred in the past and postulates that these changes may be part of a very long-term, periodic cycle.
