TWEED SALMON SMOLT SURVIVAL STUDY 2020
Following on from our pilot acoustic tracking study in Spring 2019, the Tweed Foundation will be tagging 150 salmon smolts next Spring to discover how many reach the sea and where the losses take place in the river. Only with this hard evidence – obtained from tagging and tracking a much larger sample of smolts than our pilot study – will we be able to target our future management actions to best effect.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
There are lots of ways you can help by making a donation, see: Smolt Sponsorship 2020 How To Donate.
Acoustic tracking is an effective, but expensive, way in which we can discover more about our smolts. We’d love your help and support of this work by SPONSORING A SMOLT in the 2020 smolt run down the Tweed. Sponsors will receive weekly updates on the progress of their smolt as it makes its way to the estuary to start its long migration to the feeding grounds. You are welcome to sponsor a ‘whole’ smolt, or donate to a ‘share’ in a smolt – everyone will receive the weekly updates on their smolt’s progress down-river.
We’ll also be awarding a prize for the fastest smolt to make it out of the estuary and into the sea.
